  • I arrived at the school where I’m volunteering for the next 4 weeks last night. It’s about a 4-hour bus ride east of Bangkok, not far from the border with Cambodia. I met Jason, local teacher and founder/director of the foreign volunteer program, and Laurian a nice young lady from Maryland who has been here volunteering for 4 months and will stay about 2 more months. They are both really nice people and they took me to dinner at a small place in Wattana Nakorn which had excellent food. Laurian says the school food is excellent too but I haven’t had the chance yet.
  • The rest of this week is “sporting week” which means that many of the students (the school has kindergarten thru grade 8) are away. But they did hold kindergarten class and I got to sit in and make some video. The kids are adorable, as are kindergarten students everywhere, and Laurian and the kindergarten teacher worked so nicely together in presenting a lesson on verbs and their proper usage. I was really impressed with the attentiveness of the students and their willingness to work at getting their pronunciation right.
